Our Story

Potters Amanda Leipert and Julie Hickman met in the summer of 2008 when Amanda joined the staff at Cold Spring Village.  By the end of that summer, and some particularly fine convincing on Julie’s part, the duo decided to open their own pottery shop that fall.  They rented a small space at The Woodland Village Shops in Clermont, and just like that, The Madd Potters’ Studio was born.

They opened a second location inside The West End Garage in Cape May in the summer of 2009 and in 2012 they made the jump from Woodland Village to their Carpenter’s Lane location which would be their home for the following 4 years.

From their humble beginnings of carrying solely their own work, to now specializing in carrying artisan wares from both local artists as well as artists from around the country, the Madd Potters’ strive to be your go-to shop when you need that special, one of a kind gift.

After ten plus years in business together and several expansions, the pair set their sights on the Cape May Airport Complex and opened the doors to their Hornet Rd. location in the summer of 2019.

In addition to the gallery space and Auburn Road wine tasting room, they have a working studio in their store.  The duo are thrilled to finally be able to pass along their love of clay by offering pottery classes and workshops as well as classes offered by other local professional artists in various media.
